US magazine hails HM’s mediating role in region.Judith Miller, a Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporter, in her report said the American President Barrack Obama made a phone call in early February to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said. She said the topic was whether Iran’s avowed interest in resuming talks with Washington and the West on its nuclear programme is serious. The magazine referred to the role played by His Majesty the Sultan in intermediating between Teheran and Washington and his contributions to resolve humanitarian and political challenges in the region. The magazine said that American officials credit the Sultanate with having helped free three American hikers from an Iranian prison. The report said that the Sultanate also helped secure the release of three French aid workers who were kidnapped and held in Yemen.The Newsmax report said that Oman is the first Arab state to recognise Egypt’s peace accord with Israel in the era of late Egyptian president Mohammed Anwar A’Sadat. It also appreciated the development Oman has witnessed in the last four decades under His Majesty the Sultan’s rule. The report referred to the Royal decrees to add thousands of new jobs, and a place for Omani women in the Omani society. The magazine referred to new legislative powers granted to the Shura Council and to the Sultanate’s tradition of religious tolerance.
